First things first--French keyboards have some of the keys in different places from American keyboards, so blogging is more time-consuming than we thought it would be. But we will carry on, despite the occasional typo. If I typed the previous sentence the QWERTY way, it would look like this: But ze zill cqrry on; despite the occqsionql typo: Fun, no?
Back to the post. We awoke Wednesday morning to another day in Bayeux. It was a farmer's market day there and the charming little town was all abuzz with activity. We had the obligatory breakfast of croissants and coffee/tea in a cafe where we could really people watch. After the fortification, we visited the tapestry museum which features a multiple-yards long tapestry depicting the battle and facts leading up to the Norman Conquest of 1066, a huge, but short, battle between British Harold and French William. William became known as William the Conqueror. Guess who won? It really is quite a spectacle and well worth seeing. It is a great lesson in medieval history.
Before heading to the train station back "home" to Paris, we picked up a picnic lunch to eat while we waited for the train: a long baguette, local camembert cheese, Vitamin Waters, and cookies. Speaking of cookies, it's seemingly impossible to tell the number of calories and fat in any packaged product; but then again, we haven't tried too hard! Everything in France seems to have
beurre in it, chocolate, or some other "evil." But we say, who cares? While in France, do what the French do. And I personally believe that is eat chocolate and
croissants buerres!
And that, my friends, concludes the day's
events. Pictures to follow when I figure out how to get them from my
phone into this blog. --Gail
